8 Steps To Improve Your Life And Find Happiness
Happiness begins with ourselves and those around us, so we must seek a healthy and positive circle to avoid negative thoughts
How can we find happiness? As Aristotle said, happiness depends on ourselves. The opportunity, therefore, to advance in our life and create a more satisfactory reality, requires first of all two dimensions: personal responsibility and commitment.
Thus, while it is true that no one has ever taught us what tools or mental approaches we need to generate positive change in our daily lives, it should be noted that we can all achieve it.
Happiness is after all something that goes beyond a series of material dimensions. Well-being and satisfaction are actually inscribed through very simple practices that are available to all of us.
Let’s look at eight strategies below.
1. If you want to find happiness, learn to feel good about yourself
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? We are not referring to your physical appearance. We talk about your self-esteem, the vision you have of what you do, what you have done, the state of your needs, your aspirations, whether there is a balance between your aspirations and what you have achieved.
Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we don’t feel good about ourselves. Personal satisfaction, self-concept and that psychological and emotional fabric that makes up our identity, must always be in good condition to find happiness.
The first step is to feel good about yourself to start enjoying your surroundings. For this reason, it is worth taking into account what a study carried out at Southern Cross University in Australia tells us: good quality of life, happiness and positive relationships depend on our self-esteem.
2. Set goals for yourself
Goals offer us a purpose in our life project. Furthermore, being clear about our priorities and setting goals on a day-to-day basis allow us to find that daily illusion with which to wake up every morning.
Remember that you are the owner of your life, your destiny, your actions. Therefore, do not shy away from the fear of what they will say. If your actions and their results give you energy, define you and excite you, fight for them.
Finding happiness is to conquer dreams and goals day after day, so let’s put our fears aside and work for those purposes every day.
After all, as the psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi points out, well-being and satisfaction is found when we are committed to something. Happiness comes from the activity, from feeling involved in a personal project.
3. Happiness requires commitment
Finding happiness is not a difficult task. Sometimes it requires leaving certain things (and people) behind to find that harmony where dreams and achievements fit. Where what we think and what we do follow the same line. Without dissonance, without being subject to other people’s plans or having to satisfy aspirations that are not ours.
It is important that you keep in mind that improving your reality implies being brave, making changes, taking big steps at key moments. Therefore, to avoid later frustrations, it is vital that you assume your responsibility when designing the life you want.
4. Surround yourself with positive people
You may have a circle of friends and family who view life pessimistically. They are profiles that extinguish dreams, that limit your aspirations, that extinguish illusions and infect you with their apathy.
This tends to load you with many heavy energies that, without realizing it, affect you and cause your mood to deteriorate. Soon and without realizing it, negative thoughts and discouragement assail you . Few viruses are so contagious. Keep it in mind and set limits, defensive barriers.
Unlike this, we recommend you change your circle and surround yourself with people with good energy, who motivate and support you at every step.
Look for people who make you see that, despite the adversities of life, there is always a light and a path to tranquility.
5. Travel, see the world
Do not live only from what you already know, within your “safe and comfort zone”. Within that safe space marked by routines, the predictable and the thick of the everyday, nothing new grows. There are no stimuli that enrich you, original people that make you grow in every way.
Enrich your intellect, take a risk, enjoy and see how everything turns in your favor. Finding happiness requires overcoming the lines of fear.
6. Do the things you like the most
Practice your hobbies, discover your passions, enjoy doing the activities that you like the most. Try as much as possible, that the routine does not drag you every day from sunrise to sunset, turning you into someone you are not.
Search your passions, those moments will fill you with pleasure and happiness and will transport you to a place of relaxation and fun.
7. Determine what doesn’t work for you and get rid of it
If you have a toxic relationship, whether it is a relationship or friendship or a co-worker that you do not like or favor, or even if you lead a type of life that you are not comfortable with, make changes. It is better that you get rid of what does not identify you and that brings you unhappiness. Act with courage and assertiveness, make clear what you want and need.
It is necessary that you renew yourself to put aside those dynamics that do not allow you to grow as a person, that limit your opportunity to find happiness.
8. Don’t give up
Yes, it may seem like a very strong phrase, but it is actually quite true. You should not give up, even if adversity comes, even if life hits you and you think that happiness has forever evaporated from your day to day. Assume, understand and internalize that you are stronger than you think.
Remember that there is a dormant potential in you that will give you enough resilience to renew yourself again. Don’t let the situation overwhelm you and overwhelm you. Face it and you will feel great satisfaction. Combine courage and you will find happiness.
