Luminous balloons for parties

Balloons are an element of flexible material, filled with air or helium, often used as part of decoration for birthdays and other celebrations.

They are made from aluminized rubber or plastic, come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and are typically 4 to 12 inches in diameter.

Traditionally, balloons were inflated with air by lung blowing, but also with a small device designed for this purpose. However, as part of their “evolution”, for some decades they have been filled with helium to give them the power to rise into the air.

The latter are usually the favorites of children, since they can carry them with a string or let them float in their room. In the market they can be found by units or assorted bags, with variable prices depending on their manufacturing material and size.

In addition, street vendors also distribute a large variety and often offer them in a more attractive way. The most recommended are those made of 100% latex since they only take 80 days to biodegrade.

How to make glow balloons at home?

As in this special case,  we want to teach you how to make your own led glow balloons.  Below we give you in detail the steps you must follow.

Keep in mind that LEDs can be purchased at electronics stores. There are simple, compact and flashing ones, going through a great variety of colors.

Materials

  • Balloons and twine (as needed)
  • 5mm led diodes
  • 3V lithium button batteries
  • Insulating tape
  • Helium cylinder

Instructions

  • Compact LED diodes have a built-in battery and therefore only need to be pressed to operate.
  • If the diode type is different, put it on top of the button cell, making sure each leg is glued to the cell, with light pressure on both sides of the cell.
  • Pressing should turn on the light. If not, it is necessary to reposition the stack until the desired effect is achieved.
  • Cut a strip of electrical tape and wrap the battery and diode legs so that the tape is the one that creates pressure to illuminate.
  • Inflate your balloons with a helium bottle.
  • Insert the led on, tie the balloons with a string and put them in the areas you want to decorate.

The durability time ranges between 24 and 48 hours approximately. Diodes can be used for many other occasions.

What kind of led lights can I use?

To make the luminous balloons we will need LEDs

If you have doubts about the type of led diodes that you can use to carry out this project, keep the following in mind:

White led light

They are small, so they are not recommended for oversized balloons. Use them for those who are between 10 and 11 inches tall.

Led ball light

It can be found in different shades such as: red, white, blue, green and flashing multicolor. They are sold individually and are recommended for balloons whose measurements exceed 28 cm.

Its light lasts more than 15 hours, and its brightness decreases progressively as time passes. For best results, it is good to inflate them two hours in advance.  Its maximum brightness reaches it between 4 and 5 hours.

Did you like this idea? Go ahead and carry it out at home and give your next celebrations a different touch. Of course, under no circumstances leave them outdoors, since button batteries are highly polluting.
