1. Baked French Toast or French Toast Recipe
Baked French toast or French toast provide a lot of starch, fiber, and protein but not too many calories. That means you won’t feel guilty after eating them.
A classic in European cuisine in general and French in particular, they can be fried in oil (that’s the original recipe) or baked to make them lighter.
Ingredients
- Two rolls of approximately 50 grams
- 100 ml of skimmed milk
- 1 egg
- Stevia to sweeten
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Preparation
- First, cut the bread into slices 1 cm thick each.
- In a bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk and stevia, stirring well to integrate all the ingredients. Add the cinnamon and mix again.
- Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
- Next, soak the bread slices in the mixture and place them in a baking dish (previously greased with olive oil).
- Bake for 15 minutes, until crisp and golden.
- You can sprinkle with more cinnamon if you wish and accompany with jams, cheeses or butter, as you prefer.
2. Recipe for French toast or baked torrijas
Thanks to this recipe you will get a lot of energy, fibers and proteins, therefore, it is perfect to start with all the batteries recharged from early in the morning.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of bread one or two days old
- A liter and a half of milk
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- The peel of a lemon
- The peel of an orange
- 4 tablespoons of sugar
- 3 eggs
Preparation
- To start, cut the lemon and orange peels using a potato peeler.
- In a saucepan place the milk, the cinnamon stick, the sugar and the shells, all over low heat, stirring from time to time. When it is hot and the cinnamon is dark, remove from heat and let cool. Remove the peels and cinnamon.
- Then cut the bread into slices about 2 cm thick each.
- Preheat the oven to 220ºC.
- In a bowl, place the milk and submerge the bread slices one by one and then drain.
- In another bowl, beat the three eggs and pass the slices of bread on both sides.
- Then place the slices on a baking sheet previously greased with oil or butter. Bake for 20 minutes to brown on both sides.
- When you take it out of the oven, it sure deflates a bit. Lastly, before they cool, sprinkle with the sugar. Honey or cinnamon can also be used.
3. Recipe for French toast or baked torrijas
Gastronomy experts indicate that although French toast and French toast are similar, the difference between the two is that the former are made by breading the bread with milk and beaten egg and the latter are fried in butter and not in oil. However, the recipe is more than similar.

- 4 slices of sliced bread
- 2 eggs
- 200 ml milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
- Butter
- Sugar and cinnamon for dusting
Preparation
- First, in a bowl, beat the eggs, add the milk, the vanilla essence and the sugar.
- Pass the slices of bread through this mixture, being careful not to break them.
- In a frying pan, heat the butter and then fry the bread one by one, then placing on a kitchen paper to remove the excess.
- Then sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
- You can accompany with honey, jam, icing sugar or butter, as you prefer.
