Homemade Salt And Coconut Scrub For The Whole Body

If we have sensitive skin it is convenient that instead of salt we add sugar to our homemade scrub so as not to run the risk of hurting ourselves

At least once a week we should have the habit of doing a peeling all over the body to eliminate dead cells, enhance their regeneration and facilitate skin renewal.

To do this, the simplest and most effective option is to prepare our own totally natural homemade scrub. In this article we explain how you can make it using only two ingredients: sea salt and extra virgin coconut oil.

Advantages of your homemade scrub

Today we can find many exfoliants in cosmetic stores and pharmacies. However, what need do we have to use an expensive or poor quality product that contains preservatives, petroleum derivatives or sulfates?

These ingredients can leave us a feeling of cleanliness and softness on the skin but, in the long run, they damage it and alter its natural balance.

Making other homemade cosmetic products is more laborious or we need more ingredients. However, the homemade scrub is very easy to do and it will leave our skin soft, nourished and healthy. We will only need sea salt and extra virgin coconut oil.

Sea salt

Sea salt

The first thing we must specify is that we will need sea salt, and not common salt or table salt. The reason is that sea salt is a natural and unrefined product, which is why it is rich in minerals that nourish and soften the skin.

It has relaxing properties – like the famous salt baths – and antiseptic, so you should avoid areas with cuts and wounds.

On the other hand, when applied to the skin and left to act for a few moments, it also has the virtue of absorbing toxins through the skin’s pores.

We recommend using, for the body, coarse sea salt and, if we wish, also fine. For delicate areas it should always be fine salt. If, in general, we have very sensitive skin, we will substitute salt for fine sugar. Also exfoliating and softening properties but in less depth.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil

This food is increasingly popular both for consumption and for its application, thanks to its incredible properties for health and beauty. It is a very nourishing oil for the skin. However, it is very easily absorbed in all skin types and does not leave us feeling greasy.

This oil allows us to regulate the sebum of the skin, hydrating those that are dry and progressively balancing those that are oily. In addition, it is an excellent remedy to prevent stretch marks, since it gives elasticity to the skin.

Its combination with salt allows us to have a much gentler exfoliant, which does not dry out or irritate the skin. And when you put it in the shower, the open pores will absorb the nutrients in this oil much better.

How do we do it?

Natural scrub

What I need

  • 1 cup of extra virgin coconut oil (230 g)
  • 1 cup of sea salt (150 g)

Preparation

  • To mix these ingredients well, we will have to put the coconut oil in a water bath until it melts, since at room temperature it is usually solid.
  • We will mix the two ingredients and store this scrub in a glass jar.
  • It does not need to be stored in the fridge and there is no risk of spoiling, as both products are self-preserving.

How do we exfoliate?

  • We will do this exfoliation once we enter the shower and on damp skin.
  • We will take some of our homemade scrub and begin to massage our feet. We must insist on the heels, ankles and hardened areas in general.
  • We will go up the legs doing circular movements and with medium pressure, especially in areas of poor circulation and cellulite.
  • We will massage the abdomen, following the shape of the intestine, the chest, more gently, and the arms.
  • Let the exfoliant act for a minute and rinse with water.
  • We will notice that the skin will still be impregnated by the oil. But when we get out of the shower and dry off it will be perfect.
  • For the face we recommend using a sugar-based scrub.
  • Ideally, exfoliate once a week. In times of sun exposure it is better to do it before, to get a more beautiful and uniform tan.

To conclude, remember that exfoliation is an important step to take care of our skin. However, avoid doing it too often so as not to irritate it.
