Zaldiar: What Is It For?
Zaldiar is the brand name of a medicine that contains two active substances: tramadol and paracetamol. These two substances have analgesic effects, which is why Zaldiar is indicated mainly for the treatment of pain. In English, this is called a painkiller.
In particular, it is used for the symptomatic treatment of pain of moderate to severe intensity, provided that the doctor believes that the combination of tramadol and paracetamol is necessary. The dose of paracetamol is 325 milligrams and that of tramadol 37.5 milligrams
This drug is approved for patients and for children over 12 years of age. Regarding the dosage, the doctor will adjust the dose according to the characteristics of the patient. However, never exceed 8 tablets with an interval between doses of 6 hours.
In addition, it can cause physical and psychological dependence, as well as tolerance, so it is essential to adhere to the guidelines set by the doctor.
What is paracetamol?
Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic drug that belongs to the family of NSAIDs, despite not having the anti-inflammatory effects characteristic of this pharmacological group.
Due to these properties, it is indicated for the treatment of mild and moderate pain and to treat feverish states. It is usually administered orally, although it is available for rectal and intravenous administration.
To achieve these effects, acetaminophen is thought to inhibit a variant of the COX enzyme found only in the brain: COX-3. It is for this reason that it does not have anti-inflammatory effects. However, the mechanism of action of this medicine is not known for sure.
COX enzymes are responsible for the synthesis of thromboxanes and prostaglandins, substances responsible for fever and pain. Therefore, being inhibited, these pathological processes will improve.
What about tramadol?
Tramadol is another pain reliever but belongs to the opioid pain reliever family. Therefore, it does not reduce pain, but has an effect on the perception of this symptom, both where the injury is and in the central and peripheral nervous system. To achieve this effect, tramadol affects the transmission and intensity of the pain signal.
This medicine is also mainly administered orally. It is included in the second rung of the WHO analgesic ladder, while paracetamol is in the first. This scale is widely used by healthcare personnel as a guide for pain management.
